形态特征：小乔木或灌木；雌花具长花柱，柱头内面具乳头状突起或被毛；聚花果长0.6-6厘米，成熟时红色至紫色，稀为黄白色或白色。
产地分布：约4种，10变种，主要分布亚洲东部。我国均有，除少数种外，南北均有分布。
